Matilda Gustavsson

Matilda Voss Gustavsson (1987) is the award-winning journalist behind the already historical scoop that has rocked the Swedish Academy and the international literary community. Her trail-blazing literary reporting is the foundation of her bestselling book The Club – A Chronicle of Power and Abuse at the Heart of the Nobel Scandal.

Voss Gustavsson’s investigative report about sexual abuse at the heart of the Swedish cultural world was first published in November 2017 in the Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter, and led to a series of events that brought the Swedish Academy, one of the world’s most prestigious cultural institutions which annually names the Nobel Prize in literature, to its knees. As a result of this exposé and the tumult that followed, no Nobel Prize was awarded in 2018.

Voss Gustavsson received the award for her articles and stories for Dagens Nyheter’s Weekend Supplement, where she writes intimate portraits of well-known Swedes. Upon publication of The Club in November of 2019, the book went straight to the top of the bestseller lists and it became one of the most sold works of non-fiction in Sweden in 2019. The book was also praised by critics, both in Sweden and internationally, and has been called one of most important books of the year.
